History log

Tailor Tales v 1.3 - Screenshot 18.png

Since beta 1.3 was recently released, I fixed a few bugs, corrected some typos, and have added a history log. I also adjusted gold rewards a bit, making it harder to earn gold since it was a little too easy to farm for it.

That means 1.3.1 is available for download, making it the most stable release :)

With the history log you can now read the previous 20 messages shown on screen in case you missed anything. Just click on the little book and the log will open up. Click it again to close it.

Let me know if you find any bugs. With the release of 1.3.1 I will now also release a Mac version sometime soon. Mac version is out now, too!

Your save file from beta 1.3 will work in 1.3.1 if you want to keep your progress. Please copy and replace your “\Tailor Tales\save” folder as well as your “\Tailor Tales\img\pictures\Fashion\Completed” folder into the new game folder. Make sure the folders are in the right spot!

Tailor Tales beta 1.3 update!

Download Tailor Tales beta 1.3 here.

Changelog:
– Fixed a bug that wouldn’t let you create bottoms
– New introduction and character selection
– Shops added
– You can now design clothing for clients
– Chapters now cost money to proceed, or require clothing items
– Autoread option added
– Neil’s chapters 21 through 25 added (17k words)
– Dimitri’s chapters 4 through 6 added (8k words)
– 2 CGs added
– Markus & Evelin now have working expressions
– Added Angela’s dress
– Many more backgrounds added
– Minor graphical changes to various graphics
– Characters can now run off the screen (I’m looking at you, Neil)
– Added a couple of new hairstyles and item accessories
– Added a beginner tutorial
– GodMode removed

Your previous save file will not work in this version. Please delete the previous version, or install the new one in a different folder. Previous beta players can still play where they left off by indicating so during the introduction.

GodMode is removed in this version – you no longer have access to all items from the start, neither can you read the story while skipping all requirements. You now have to earn money to progress the story, as reading costs money and it scales up with each chapter.

Everyone will now have to be forced to go through the introduction as well as the designing tutorial. I’m not taking any chances with people pressing “no” on the tutorial and skip it.

Decorate is still not an available option in this version. You can finally shop though – although the backgrounds for the shops still aren’t finished, neither are the shopkeepers.

Neil’s route splits in chapter 25 into the Passionate ending or the Innocent ending. Try re-reading chapters and pick different answers to read both versions of chapter 25! This does mean that Neil’s route, from here on out, is officially split. Each ending has two chapters, a CG unique to that ending, and a shared epilogue. That means, there’s only 3 more chapters left to go until Neil’s route is complete!

I wanted to re-design the in-game menu, but that will be saved for a different update. This update will still have the old version. Sometimes the CG gallery behaves a bit glitchy and will display the previous CG you saw, instead of the one you clicked.

Mac version will be released sometime after the PC version is out.

Questionnaire for those that have played beta 1.3:

1. What is your gender and age?
2. Where did you find out about Tailor Tales?
3. Is the art style appealing to you, or did it take some convincing?
4. Which (available) character is your favourite?
5. What’s your favourite scene?
6. What’s your favourite CG?
7. Which character would you like to be available next?
8. How many fierce points and how many kind points did you get at the end of each route?
9. How much tailoring experience and gold did you end up having at the end?
10. Was it difficult getting gold to purchase the chapters, or was it easy?
11. Was it difficult re-creating garments that were important clients? I.e. the masquerade dress, Angela’s dress, or the opera dress.
12. Favourite aspect of the game?

If you encountered a bug, please follow these steps:
– Please take a screenshot of the bug in question, or give me a detailed description.
– Give me a detailed description of the things you did right before the bug happened (i.e. you clicked on a dress and suddenly everything malfunctioned.)
– If you got stuck at a chapter and or important clients, please let me know which chapter and which character you are on.

When you get an error after creating a new game:
You’re running an older version, please delete this folder, re-download the game and play again, it should be fixed! :)

Tailor Tales beta 1.2

Small update for Tailor Tales! Not much added story-wise, but loads of different things program-wise (well, I mean, I still added over 12k words). I wanted to release something before I went on holiday and had a one month break from TT.

Tailor Tales beta 1.2

threeway

Mac version finally available!! Not guarantee is actually works, since I’m getting a report it gets stuck when a character appears.

Changelog:
– Sarah, Dimitri and Alex’s voices have been added
– Neil’s chapters 19 & 20 added
– Dimitri’s chapter 3 added
– 1 CG added
– 3 new portraits
– Characters can now blink
– Characters can have threeways
– Several new backgrounds
– Entering your name can now be done with a keyboard
– Fixed a bug with the menu
– Testing special portrait movements (Neil chapter 19, Dimitri chapter 1)

You are still in GodMode in this beta – I think the next beta will perhaps be the first one to not have GodMode on and you’ll have to earn gold to proceed to the next chapter.

Even though two new portraits were added, they are missing their expressions, so they do not yet change and are static images instead. Angela is also supposed to be wearing a different dress, but that’s not in there yet.

I initially wasn’t going to add Dimitri’s CG, so count yourself lucky. Also, I personally am a sucker for this CG.

I had to re-work my entire portrait system to allow for blinking, and TDS was kind enough to help me out and turn it into a plugin. I haven’t tested all of the scenes in the game, but I tested the majority and everything seemed to work without a hiccup, but do let me know if a character is being shown with the wrong body or something.

Please delete your previous version because too much has changed, coding wise. If you want to keep your previous save file, simply copy it from the folder www > save > file1, and paste it in the new version. Don’t forget to copy & paste the images in www > img > pictures > fashion > Completed if you want to keep your clothes.

I may have forgotten to adjust the limit to Neil’s chapters, so you can’t jump any higher than 19 >_> let’s ignore that. You can still progress to chapter 20 normally though.

Dimitri’s chapter 3 also has a line of text added in twice, and Neil’s chapter 19 might have an extra word in there somewhere as well. Forgive me =_=

Feedback questions:

1. Are you enjoying Neil’s route, do you still like him/hate him?
2. How many fierce and kind points did you score for Neil?
3. How long did it take you to finish Neil’s first 20 chapters?
4. What are your thoughts on Dimitri? And his voice?
5. How long did it take you to finish Dimitri’s first 3 chapters?
6. Who’s your favourite guy out of Neil and Dimitri?
7. What’s your favourite CG?
8. What’s your favourite chapter or scene?
9. Which part made you actually feel happy/angry/flustered?
10. What did you like more, creating clothes, dressing up the avatar, or reading the story?
11. Even though Neil and Dimitri are the only two available options right now, who else are you interested in?
12. Overall comments about the game? Art? Writing? You name it!

Beta v. 0.2

Download Windows

Windows mirror
Mac version not available.

Beta 0.2 is out now! You can read chapters 1 through 12 of Neil’s route. Chapter 1 has an added scene, so I highly recommend replaying from the beginning! Press the spacebar to skip through text quickly.

The clothing system hasn’t been added yet (still in development), purely novel reading at the moment.

New characters are introduced, new backgrounds, two new CGs, and some added voices! If you didn’t like Neil that much from the first beta, I highly recommend reading until chapter 12 – if you still don’t like his route, then I don’t know what will change your mind.

Save bug:
I forgot to turn on the save menu, so you CANNOT save in the beta. Luckily you can still jump towards the chapter you left off in, I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

What can you do:
– You can customize your character
– You can read Neil’s first 12 chapters

What you can’t do:
– Click on any options in the menu besides Continue, Settings, Save and ?
– Create any clothing
– Anything else besides reading Neil’s chapters, really

What you don’t need to pay attention to:
– Titlescreen
– Save screen
– Character creation

Feedback I’m looking for:
– Did you like the added sound bites for Neil, the sighs and grunts? Or would you prefer to do without?
– Do you think the backgrounds are interesting enough?
– Do you like the new scene added with the grandma? (if you’ve played the first beta only)
– Would you prefer an actual drawn portrait sprite for the grandma?
– How long did it take you to complete chapters 1 through 12?
– How many fierce points and kind points did you score at the end?

Spoilers questions for those that haven’t played the beta, highlight to read:

– Were you initially fooled during chapter 12, thinking it was Neil?
– Did it become obvious the black haired man was Neil instead?
– Do you like or hate Neil’s new sprite?
– Did you spot the falling star?
– Did you like the CGs and which one was your favourite?
– Did the second CG properly display your selected hair colour and skin tone?
– Did your opinion of Neil change? Do you like him more now, or hate him even more?
– Which chapter did you enjoy the most?
– Do you want to know what happens next?
Please use the word **SPOILERS** in your comment if you’re answering the spoiler questions!

Hooray, the first official beta is released! This means you can help me test it out and provide feedback. I even added two bonus chapters, so you have 7 chapters to read through instead of the original planned 5. It will take about 25 minutes to finish.

There’s a small error in that after chapter 6 ends, chapter 7 starts immediately. This has already been noted :)

What can you do:
– You can customize your character
– You can read Neil’s first 7 chapters

What you can’t do:
– Click on any options in the menu besides “continue”
– Create any clothing
– Anything else besides reading Neil’s chapters, really

What you don’t need to pay attention to:
– Unfinished art (mainly Sarah here)
– Character creation is temporary and will be different and polished

Feedback I’m looking for:

– What are your first impressions after reading Neil’s first few chapters?
– Do you think your choices reflect what you would personally do?
– Are you hooked enough to continue reading?
– If you find any typos or grammar errors, please take a screenshot of it, or recite back the exact line of dialogue.
– How many fierce points and how many kind points did you score at the end?

Beta 1.0

Tailor Tales beta 1.0 is out now. Want to help beta-test? Then download one of the links below. Download the one that says With RTP if you do not have RPG Maker VX/RTP installed. Download the one without it if you do.

If you had downloaded and installed the RTP from the last beta, you do not have to do this again, and so download the one that says without RTP.

Without RTP (59 MB):

With RTP (86 MB):
http://www.mediafire.com/?x9kqo30bzd17h5o
(if download links are set to private, it means beta testing is over)

Everyone, read the text file – it tells you what to test for and what the controls are.

Please download either WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the files.

If you are getting errors installing the one with RTP, then just delete that entire folder, go to the RPG Maker VX website and download the RTP over there, install it, and then simply download the one without RTP in this post, and everything should work.

For newcomers, here’s an image to guide you through the player’s house:

The closet in beta 1.0 is unavailable, as well as the extra dyes and special thread. You also don’t start out with all the items anymore, nor have any access to half of these. This was done so that beta-testing will feel more like playing the real game because you have to work hard to gain those materials. The market is still not functional.

Ship any items you’ve found or made at the Town Hall in District 2 (check the map if you’re lost). Items you’ve bought from Bill, Calvin, Roy or from the General Store will be shipped for half the price.

The sewing machine can be bought for 7000 gold at the General Store.

Post bugs you find as a reply on this post, thanks! Happy beta-testing!

Known bugs in beta 1.0

– Calvin’s schedule acts wonky when it is 14:00 and you’re in District 4. It’ll be fixed when it’s 15:00. Fixed

– When shipping something, and then selecting ‘no’ when it asks you to ship it, you’ll lose all of the money you’re currently holding. Fixed

– Trying to save, on any map, can randomly crash your game (black screen with music still playing). Fixed

– You can buy cotton from Bill even though he’s not at the counter. Fixed

– Interacting with Bill while he is entering/exiting the map, will cause his sprite to still continue his route, despite talking to him. Fixed

– The fox can be found sleeping all day long in the cave. Fixed

– James will be in Wyde Forest on a Friday before he is supposed to be there. It will only update if you go to a map where he is supposed to be. Fixed

– You can buy as much wool and cotton as you want, except it stops at 99 and won’t give you any more than that, but still deducts the price from it. Same thing for items you buy at the store. Fixed

– The digsite does not generate random cracks on any floor. You might also run into the problem of not finding the ladder on the 1st floor to go down to. Fixed

– You are able to open up the menu at inappropriate times (such as when a textbox is open, or during a shop event). Fixed

Beta 0.9

Tailor Tales beta 0.9 is now out. Want to help beta-test? Then download one of the links below. Download the one that says With RTP if you do not have RPG Maker VX/RTP installed. Download the one without it if you do.

Please read the text file included (though I know most of you won’t, but try to) to see what you need to test for, the controls, and differences from beta 0.8.5. I also included the images for Bill’s and James’s schedule if you are having trouble finding them.

For newcomers, here’s an image to guide you through the player’s house:

Report any bugs you find on this post, or in any of the development threads I have created on separate forums.

Happy testing!

Known bugs in beta 0.9

These are the bugs that have already been found:

– Staying in Bill’s house (3 hearts) when it hits 10:00 or 14:00 makes you unable to move until the next hour kicks in.

– Seeing James walk out of his home (3 hearts) means you are unable to leave the 2nd floor due to an invisible blockage near the stairs.

– Slight lagging of rain/snow/storm when exiting the menu.

– Despite there only being 100 floors at the digsite, you can still fall through cracks which will let you exceed this number.

– NPCs stop moving if you try to interact with them.

– Bill’s schedule can be somewhat inconsistent inside of his house.

– Not dying anything renders the menu inaccessible until you make some yarn, cloth, clothing or go to sleep.

– James’s schedule on Monday in District 2 doesn’t work correctly.

– In the dress sewing menu, the Flax dress option has permanent arrows on it.

– Rain BGS sound carries over to the titlescreen.
